What is ozone and what are its specific properties?

Ozone destroys all germs, such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, but also insects that are light-shy, such as bed bugs, dust mites, cockroaches and insects that often hide from light. Normally, ozone is a colourless to light blue gas, with a characteristic pungent odour. Ozone is a strong oxidiser, a single substance of the element oxygen. Ozone is naturally produced in the atmosphere under the influence of electrical discharges (such as during a thunderstorm) and by ultraviolet radiation with a wavelength between 100 and 300 nm in the upper layers of the atmosphere. Each wavelength has its own specific properties. Ozone has a disinfecting effect and is used to disinfect drinking water, for example. Ozone is also used to disinfect well water, swimming water and surfaces that come into contact with food. Removing odours, for example (car) interiors and materials after a fire. Please note! Ozone is a poisonous gas, harmful to humans, animals and plants.

We are all at risk of catching and spreading viruses and bacteria, especially in public spaces such as offices, shops, schools, public transport, but also at home. UV-C radiation has been used intensively for over 40 years and is an effective disinfectant for air, surfaces, objects and water. BBM Ledproducts is specialized in the field of UV-C technology. In laboratory tests, our UV-C light sources destroyed 99% of all germs on a surface and in the air with an exposure time of a few seconds.
